Getting Ready For Renovations!! :-0

Hello Everyone!!

I hope you all are having a wonderful week so far.

My daughter goes on Spring break next week!!

Yep, SPRING Break!!

Can’t wait.

I need a little break, myself, from the school day duties.

Especially with what is getting ready to start here in the Young’s homestead.

As some of you may know, we have been planning forever to replace the ugly carpeting on the stairs with wood.

Now, it is finally that time!! Yippee!

We met with our carpenter Monday, went down to the lumber yard and chose what we wanted.

I am also going to be adding spindle railings to the stairs.

I'm not sure why I didn't want them when we built the house.

But at the time, I was dead set against them, now I have changed my mind.

I think they will help improve the look of the foyer.

I have always HATED the staircase.

And unfortunately, it was the very first thing you see when you walked in the front door.

I can not express how excited I am to be finally getting this done.

We are also replacing the staircase that leads to the basement (family room) with wood.

In fact, the rest of the carpeting is going Bye-Bye!!!

Well, we might leave it in our youngest daughter’s and son’s bedrooms for right now.

But other than that, there will not be any ugly, worn, carpeting in my house.

And finally, we are, also, redecorating the basement.

I started painting it over 2 years ago and truthfully never finished.

We have been living with in nearly done all this time.

The problem was….

Once I painted it, I didn't like the color I chose.

And this is a large area.

So, of course, the thought of actually starting over with a different color of paint….

Well, lets just say I could not get excited about that.

So it sat!

My hubby wants to make the basement his “Man Cave” or should I say, “Fan Cave”.

I have been fighting him on this for years.

But I finally realized two things.

One, how could I sit there with it half done for years (looking awful), and yet refuse to let him do what he wants to do with it.

And two, he works so hard.

Always making sure I get to do what I want, buy what I want, go where I want.

Doesn't he deserve something somewhere in the house he can get excited about decorating?

Is it really that big of a deal if the basement is done in football Pittsburg Steelers?

So, needless to say, I gave in and told him,

“If it makes you happy, Go For It.”

“Just don't plan on redoing the upstairs in it.”  LOL!!

A little back story, What recently started all of this was….

We have two offices in the basement.  His and Mine.

They are right next to each other with a wall between them.

Then we have the Family TV room with sliding pocket doors that open up into a big Nothing Room.

It literally has sat without purpose since we built the house.

And little by little it turned into the catch all room.

Boxes of stuff we didn't know where to put, Christmas decorations, excess furniture, etc.

It was such a waste of space.

So, last week I told him,

“Why don’t you turn this room into your office?”

“It is so much bigger than the room you have.”

“You have always wanted a big, nice, office and you could have one in here.”

Well, he thought about it for awhile and then finally agreed it would be a good idea.

So I told him,

“We need to knock down this wall between our two rooms.”

“This way I can have more space.”

My office is very cluttered.  With all my sewing stuff, plus all my website stuff.  I can barely move, let alone create.

So I told him,

“This way I can divide the space into two parts.”

“One section will be my computer, website, area.”

“And this other section will be my sewing section.”

I proceeded to walk back and forth between the two rooms pointing out what I would like to do.

Anyway… he agreed it would be a good idea.

So, the contractor will also be tearing down that wall and opening up my office.

Cant wait!!

He should be starting on all of this any time now.

Once he gets in here, I'm not sure how much I will be online until he is finished.

I have to empty out this room.

Not excited about that part of it, I admit.

I'm not sure where I’ll move it out to or how I will ever get it all out.

But I know it has to be done.

I was hoping to just move it all over to the opposite side of the room.  But then soon realized that wont work because of all the dust that will fill the room, once they start tearing into the wall.

So, I guess I HAVE TO move it.

I will be sure to show off B4 and After photos when it all gets finished.

It is surely going to be a crazy hectic next couple of months here at our home.

Exciting Yes, but I have a feeling also stressful. ;)

I will just be sooo happy when it is all finished and I can sit back and enjoy.

That’s all I have to share for the day.

Time to get back to work!

Talk Soon!

Take Care…
