DG & DT Porch Decorating & Craft Supplies

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Went back to To the Dollar Tree yesterday with my daughter and got a couple supplies for crafting.

But before I show you that, I wanted to share what I got at Dollar General.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

They had the cutest silicone molds.

Well, actually they are calling them ice trays, but I am going to use them for making tarts.

Aren’t these just the cutest!

They are bendable too! Not that horrible hard plastic.

And can’t beat the price! $1.00

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

I also picked up these silhouette Owls, but I have no idea what I will do with them.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

And aren't these wonderful.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

I bought the candy corn color, but they also have solid orange and black ones.

I believe the price for these were around $3.00.

Which brings me to the crafting part of my post.

I wanted to make a twig tree for my front porch.

So yesterday Mom and I gathered up some branches and carried them home with us when we went for our morning walk.

I decided to drill a hole through the top and bottom of one of my faux pumpkins and stick the branches through it.

I wanted the branches to go all the way through, so I could stick them into the dirt that remained in the chamber flower pot.

I thought this might help secure it when the fall winds begin…. we will see. ;)

Then I took one box of my DG Halloween lights and wrapped it around the branches.

Still needed more though.

Which brings me to what I got at the DT yesterday.

I picked up 3 black crows.

They have wire sticking out of their feet so it made it easy to attach them to the branches.

Now before I show you how it turned out, I want to say…

I don't consider it finished yet, I want to pick up some berry garland and wrap it around the branches like I did with the one in the foyer.

Plus I am wanting to stick some Spanish Moss where the sticks go into the pumpkin, just need to run to Wal-Mart and pick some up.

But I wanted to go ahead and show off how it looks so far.

It was simple easy to make!

Here it is for now….

Kinda Cute, huh?!

A little bare yes, it needs those berry for color and to help hide the cord.

But I think it is a really cute idea!!

See there’s my wreath I made the other day. ;)

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

I’ve been working on decorating my porch the past few days.  Still not done yet.  I will be sure to show it off as soon as I get it finished.

Here is a close-up of the Dollar Tree crows.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

And a close-up showing how simple it is to stick the branches into the pumpkin, once you drill out the orange exterior.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

The pumpkin centers are star foam and these type of pumpkins can be found pretty much anywhere.

I believe mine came from either Wal-Mart or Target.

And here is a shot of it all lit up at night.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Before I sign off I wanted to show the little ice trays molds I picked up at the Dollar Tree.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

I think I like these better than the ones I got a DG.

These are more Fall, rather than the Jack-O’ Lantern design, which makes me think Halloween only.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Now I must go sew!!

I have so much to get caught up on.

The deadline for the charity auction is getting closer and closer and I haven't finished anything for it.

Plus I still have those bear orders to get finished!!

I need more hours in the day. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Take Care & Talk Soon,

Love your Crow Tree Creation!! I, too, may just have to steal the idea!! I have lots of those pumpkins -- I picked them up a few years ago at Joann's for my oldest daughter's Halloween b'day.... she was turning 30 and we had a big party for her. Now I have about 8,000 faux pumpkins (just a bit of an exaggeration, but there are MANY!) in my basement waiting for me to do something with them. Your's is so cute.... you are so creative and come up with some of the best ideas! Thanks for sharing....

Oh I'm loving that little twig tree something fierce...I don't think you need any berry garland - maybe a few more crows tho ;o) Love it!!! I'm so leery of putting anything on our porch - it's small, and whatever I put on there usually ends up in Kansas or other places unknown! Hmmm...maybe I could hollow out one of those pumpkins and fill it with plaster of paris or cement or something....Can't wait to see the tarts you make either! Happy Saturday! Craft On! You know what? I think you just solved my problem!!!
I can't put anything on my front patio because the sun sets on it and it gets 100+ degrees there, even in the fall. My pumpkins cook, flowers die, paint bubbles and chips, etc. But this tree would work. It's already dead!!!
The lights are already made to stand some heat too. It is sooooo cute and I love the crows. I think I can afford it too. So thank you for the idea. -Steph-

I never thought to look at Dollar Tree for those little molds! Great tip. Your tree turned out great and looks eerily festive at night. Your blue door sets off the fall colors so nicely! You've inspired me to dress up my doorway for the fall...as soon as it stops raining! ~Roberta
