Some Thoughts On The New Year + Tons Of Tweaking Photos :)

2012 …

A New Year…

A Fresh Start…

A Clean Slate…

I've never been one to make resolutions.

I know me, I would never see them through.  :)

But I have spent some time thinking about what I want out of this new year.

Here are just a few.

#1~ Slow down and Enjoy each day.

I spend so much time, rushing to do this, get this and that done.  Putting so much pressure on myself.

And over what???  Things that in the grand scheme of things don’t really matter at all.

Not only that but I’m loosing out on actually enjoying the process because I am trying so hard to hurry through it.

#2~ Get back to doing things I love, for Me.

By this I mean…

Like decorating or crafting. Way too many times I decorate or make something and the whole time be wondering….

How will that look in a photograph? Will others like it?

Too cutesy?? Too Mix Matched??

Too this, Too That???

Who Cares!!!

I do enjoy sharing my home and projects with others but way too often I let others negative comments affect me.

For example:

A few months ago I got an email from someone who was viewing my photos on RMS.

They emailed and critiqued every room.

Stating they lived in a 1800’s farmhouse and my woodwork was too shiny, too many flags in my bedroom, etc., etc.

They had a list of things, I just can’t remember them all right now.

Because of this I started thinking….

“Gosh darn it, why wont Brett agree to painting the woodwork!”

(A big no-no for him.)

“Maybe I should do a way with some of my flags.”

(Which I love.)

And so on and so on.

*None of these happened, but it is the fact that I wasted thoughts, time and energy because of something a stranger said!!!

How silly is that!!

We all have different tastes and style.

I may have an area decorated that someone looks at and thinks…

“I don’t like it.  I would change this and change that.”

I may look at their space and think the same thing.

*It is all just our opinion, nothing more.

There is no right, no wrong.

Everyone has their own individual taste, and that’s okay.

How boring would it be if everyone's home looked exactly the same!!

~Because of all these types of emails and messages I have gotten over this past year, and yes there have been a few…

I have decided, Who Cares!

I’m going to get back to decorating and crafting For Me and Only Me!

As long as I like it, that is all that matters.

Because the truth of it is…

It’s not as fun when the whole time you are doing things, in the back of your mind, you are wondering what others will think.

Now, I know, I’ll have some hit and misses with the things I do.

There will be things I do, then come back later and wonder…

“What the heck was I thinking.” and change it all.

But that’s the fun part!

Not holding back… trying something different just because I want to.

*I will still be sharing what ever I do.  And yes, of course, I will always love reading your comments.

I’m just not going to worry about the “haters” in the world.

Let them hate… Who cares! :)

#3~Try to learn something new.

There are so many things I would love to learn.

But because of that hurrying thing, I never seem to have the time to just slow down and let myself.

I want to finally do it this year.

At least one thing!

Pick one on my list of the many and at least make the attempt.

Hummm, Maybe rug hooking.  I tried it a few years ago and failed miserably!

Maybe this year, I can find the time to actually try to learn how to do it.

Starting with the right supplies would probably be a big help too. Hehee! Last time, I just gave it a shot with some scraps I had sitting around. Big no- no! :)

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

~ I’m sure I could come up with more things I would want out of this year.

But I won’t bore you any longer with my rambling thoughts.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

I have been working on my cabinet from my mom.

Getting it painted and put into place.

I will be showing it off soon, but I’m not finished working on the space yet.

Decorating this cabinet, had me taking things from spaces throughout the house.

And this lead to tweaking almost everywhere!! Heehee.

You may not be able to notice the little tweaks here and there, but they are there. :)

Any who…

I will share with you some new photos of my bedroom and dining room.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit it…

These rooms have actually changed some since I took the photos Last Night!! LOL!!

A little more tweaking here and there when something would catch my eye and think…

Nope that needs to go here or there.

The infamous Master Bedroom.

*Story about the red ware plate above.

I ordered it from one of my favorite red ware artist and when I got it in, I noticed Brett’s name was spelt wrong.

She told me just to keep the misspelled one and that she would send me a new one out.

I, of course, couldn't just throw out the misspelled one.

So, here it sits in my bedroom.

Brett might not like that his name is spelled wrong, but it is just too darn pretty not to display. :)

My Uncle Sam, still one of my all time favorite creations.

wow, everything looks so clean and tidy and fresh. That is what I have been up to too, I have been cleaning, organizing, and filling up garbage bags! It feels good to prepare for the wonderful year ahead.

You expressed yourself so well about the New Year and your aspirations. You expressed what I have been feeling...taking time to "smell the roses".
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. I like your before and afters but I am wondering were is that beautiful cobalt enamel ware displayed now?
Enjoy the New Year !

Love your thoughts for the new year. Too many of us "sweat the small stuff." One of my favorite Bible verses is "For I have found in whatever state I am to be content." Very wise words from Paul & a wonderful goal for all of us. Your home looks wonderful! I wish you a very happy new year filled with contentment : ) Blessings, Shirlee

I don't make resolutions either, I know they never stick. But my list of "goals" would follow yours. I too want to slow down and not care what the haters think, hehe. That is so crazy that someone critiqued your home that way. How can anyone have too many flags?? Were they not an American? I mean geez... sounds like they're just jealous because you have a beautiful home that you put so much love and care in to.

I enjoyed the tour through your home, it is prim perfect Tam!

Tam, Your homestead is BEAUTIFUL, I am going to try to hook rug this year too. The medication I am on makes me very sick and the Lord really has been by my side and my husband Ken of course.I just hate that when I wash my hair I have a handful that keeps falling out, in one word it SUCKS!
They caught in time but the medication make me very sick and alot of side affects.

I love, love your MASTER BEDROOM, I am sorry but I have to say this if people want to email you about anything that isn't nice, then they DON't need to LOOK at your blog. You are very well liked and loved. You know what kind of person you are so who gives a DARN!

You have a wonderful knack for decorating your homestead and forget about the few people that have the nerve to email you and talk down at you about your home, you live there NOT THEM. My response is if you feel that way DON'T come on my blog and go enjoy your 1800 farmhouse, because Tam, no one needs anyone to try to make you feel bad.

Your homestead is amazing and breath taking!!!
You are my friend and you know who your friends are and who are NOT your friends.
You keep decorating and tweaking and posting because all of us gals that love you, love to see your beautiful home!

I hope you are feeling better everyday.

Happy New year my friend.

Hugs and Kisees and lots of love,

Tammy, I think your house looks really nice. You have some wonderful things. You were speaking about some people not liking the things you do. I think my mom is the only one in my family on either side that really likes the way I decorate. I just love primitives, everybody else not so much. I get comments like did you make that to, I'll say yea and thats it. I just figure oh well to each his own. I enjoy my stuff.

Re: #2 on your list ... CLICK would have taken care of those unwarranted/unsolicited comments. Shame on them. Your home is just beautiful. I love seeing homes with different styles of decor.

May your New Year be filled with many blessings & Joys.

Tammy, thanks for the home tour. I love your master bedroom and your dining room looks wonderful. It's too bad that people with negative opinions can't keep them to themselves. Your goals of slowing down and making sure to please yourself in what you do are right on target. You are an inspiration.

Wishing you a blessed New year,

Love your home..always have. I think you should decorate the way you want! Those that hate..imagine how horrible the lives of people are around them having to put up with them.

I think NEXT time when you do before and after do it like the comic thing in the newspaper called Hocus Focus!(I think that is what it is called) LOL ..seriously that is what came to my mind and we can figure out whats moved. Either way your home looks perfect..the way you like..the way it is suppose to be.

Hi, Tam -
What a marvelous photo tour of your home. Please believe me when I say
your house is perfect the way it is.
Many years ago in another life I had a decorator from Sandwich (CapeCod) do the rooms in my colonial Cape house. Trust me, you did as fine a job as she did. Just because someone lives in a 1800's farmhouse doesn't mean they know anything about decorating.
Let's learn to rug hook together.

Your Abe print with the barn stars in the frame is the same one I was looking for. How cool a chamber pot. I bet you could have guessed I like your bedroom. After you visited my last post & seeing my framed pictures. Glad you stopped by & commented. Not all like the same thing but in all kindness I believe it is best to not make comments if one dose not like what you like. Keep on doing what you like. You have a beautiful home. Happy New Year to you & the family. Blessings!

Your home is beautiful!!
I so agree that we should decorate our homes with what we love...and not let it get to us about what others think if they don't like how we decorate.

nancy huggins said...

I think your house is awesome..the old pictures and the new are both great..I do like the same decor as you which does help but I always appreciate all kinds of decor no matter what it is. My DH can't understand why people pay a lot to have the teams come in and design a room ( H G T V) He thinks they got ripped off because the room is soooo ugly and I try to explain to him that they always do what the customer likes and we all have different likes...right?
Don't worry about what others say because they didn't like the way you had things arranged..Your home is very warm and cozy and looks very welcoming..Thats all that matters (Oh and did I say I love it)? :)

Tammy your home is beautiful. You can decorate it anyway you want.Maybe because I am older, but I decided I would listen to suggestions, then do what made me happy. My philosophy is have nothing around you, that you don't love. And that includes people. You have a beautiful home, a wonderful blog, so you go girl,

Tammy: My thoughts in CA people don't really "understand" Primitive Decorating so I get all kinds of suggestions...I just ignore them and do what I like. Your before and afters are wonderful as is your whole house. Loved your aspirations, too. Many the same as mine...seems I am always "in a hurry" and yet never get all done that I think I HAVE to. We will both slow down in 2012, OK?
thanks for becoming a follower, I shall do the same. {{HUGS}} Joy

I so love seeing everything you do to your home! it's wonderful! That's is what so great about primitive, there is no right or wrong and out here in blogland we open are home up and welcome everyone in..
BUT some need to remember if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all! No asked you to begin with!
I think you have done a wonderful job, and it's your home and your style, I see your personality everywhere!!! Be proud! we all love it! Happy new Year! OLM

TheCrankyCrow said...

That's the Tam we all know and love...You go girl....I LOVE your home, every stinkin' thing in it and how you have it all displayed....Give me the before, or give me the afters, and I'd be a happy cranky crow either way. The only thing I would say is that old doll in your bedroom just does not belong there and ruins your whole decorating scheme. So, being the good blogging pal that I am, I will help you out by giving you my addy, and you can just send her off to me and I'll fix that little problem for you. ;o) JUST KIDDING!!! (But couldn't resist....I know what it's like - in the past week I've had comments that my house only needs an "open" and "closed" sign on the front door (meaning it looks like an antique store in kind terms, or a junk store in less kind terms); that my house is a museum (is that a "bad" thing??); that I have hoarding "tendencies" (hmmmm....); and a "what the heck is THAT?!".....I long ago gave up giving a flying hoot. One of the best lessons I've ever learned is "consider the source." If I respect "the source," I "might" consider the suggestion (more likely not tho - because sometimes I find it's fun just to mess with folks' minds....) ;o) Truly, I've never aimed to please anyone within my home but me and my family (and mostly me....) so, if it pleases me, it's all good....) Thanks for the wonderfully glorious tour.....Wishing you a beautiful new year overflowing with joy, promise, and blessings....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
