Fall Inspired Giveaway!

APP ~Tammy

Well, I have decided to do a little giveaway in celebration of one of my favorite seasons…

I handmade this little guy awhile back but he was never adopted, so I have decided to offer him to one of blogging friends.

He is a one of a kind creation, handmade by me.

No Crows ~ Scarecrow

He measures approx. 16” long from the top of his hat downward.

His head was made of burlap and has hand stitched facial features.

His eyes and nose were made from pieces of old wool fabric.

APP ~Tammy

Tied to his hands is a little prim banner that reads, No Crows.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Hand stitched to his head and shoulder are two primitive black crows.

Just Playin’ Around…

Happy Hump Day Everyone!

Nothing too exciting going on here at the Young’s Homestead, but I do have one quick thing to share.

Recently Tiff over at Folded Gingham Blogspot told me about another free picture editing site,

So, of course, I had to go check it out. I love these types of websites.

Below are some photos I played around with over there.

Sneak Peek Of My Family Room

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Happy Sunday Everyone.

I have spent the last few days working hard in my family room.

Yes, I have a family room. :)

It is in the basement, if you have followed my blog for awhile, you know, I have never been too enthused about decorating it.

In fact, it was left 1/2 painted for over 3 years!!!

Well, Finally, I am putting some love into it. With the house being on the market, it needed to be done.

I've stepped away from my normal decorating style, and trying something new.

I consider this more of a White Farmhouse decor, rather than my traditional Primitive Colonial or Primitive Farmhouse, that you will see upstairs.  Even though when you see the entire space, there are touches of primitive here and there.

This is still a work in progress but I hope to be back soon with more to share.

Here are a couple of teaser photos taken with my phone.

What happened to my camera??

Well, it took a vacation to Costa Rica with my Mom and Dad.

Dad decided to jump in to the pool, forgetting that the camera was in his pocket!!

Needless to say, the camera was not waterproof.

Hopefully, I will have a new one by the time I get this space finished, so I can show it off with some better quality pictures.

Above: I found two of these wonderful white plates at GW yesterday.

On the one above, I Mod Podged an antique post card in the center.  On the back, I hot glued a strip of burlap to make a hanger.

I just love the way it turned out!! :)

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Over my black leather recliner I placed this wonderful white woven blanket, also a yesterday Goodwill find.

I was so excited when I noticed the price, $4 bucks!

I found the wonderful burlap lamp shade at Dollar General for $5.00, so cute!!

You may also notice, I brought in my old gate from the porch.  On this I am going to be hanging old b/w photos, post cards and such.

I used small rusty safety pins to attach them to the gate.

So, there you have it.

A little sneak peak of my Family Room.

Now back to work! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit.

Just Catching Up

APP ~Tammy

Happy Saturday everyone.

I hope you all are having a wonderful and peaceful weekend.

I really need to be upstairs washing dishes and getting the house cleaned up.  Oh well, it will still be there later.

Thought I would just jump on and chat for a bit first.

First off, I wanted to show you what Brett brought me home Thursday for my birthday.

*I apologize for the photos, my Mom has the camera.

One dozen beautiful red roses.

They smell so good.

I have them displayed on my fireplace and since I don’t own a vase, I used the crock that was a gift from my dear sweet friend Marie, Also known as OLM. :)

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

Well, you all know the mood I have been in lately, so no we didn't do anything to celebrate.

He asked if I wanted to, but I wasn't in the mood so we just relaxed and watched some tv.

Exciting, I know. :)

I also want to send out a Thank You and Hug to Linda of Parker Paradise blog for the sweet birthday card she sent me.  That was so thoughtful of you Linda.  Thank you for thinking of me and for bringing a smile to my face.

APP ~Tammy

And for anyone who was wondering, here is an update on the quilt top situation.

Well, I sent her a message explaining all the things we discussed in my previous post but I ended it with offering her an antique coverlet slice and some quilt pieces I had.

I explained that these were not a replacement for the top, because I still do not consider it my fault that it fell apart when she chose to wash it.

These were just an act of kindness so she could have something to use for her creations.  Also that there was no need to return the quilt top, she could use it or throw it away.

Here is a photo I sent her of what I would be sending.

What was her response,

“That coverlet looks old! Well, I can't tell the sizes, but it's better than nothing!
Thank you for doing this.”

Now maybe it’s just me.

Maybe I am just extremely emotional right now because of everything that has been going on in my life lately.

But to me, I thought that was kind of rude.

The part, “Well, I can’t tell the sizes, but it’s better than nothing!”

I mean, come on, I didn't have to offer anything.

I could have left it be, but after praying about it I decided to send something.

You know that prayer for strength I have been praying…

Well, it has been in overload lately.

Any who, it is what it is.  And maybe she didn't mean it to come off rude.  Like I said, maybe I’m just over emotional right now.  It just kind of got me when I read it.

I’m going to mail it next week and hopefully put it all behind me.  I seriously can’t handle one more thing right now.

APP ~Tammy

Okay, that is enough dwelling on all of that!

Did you all notice my header photo on this post.

I made it at picmonkey.

I think that’s the name.

It is a free photo editing site, I just love those.

Such fun!

And a quick update on the house situation.

Well, we thought we had another buyer.

We agreed on a price and they were suppose to bring over the earnest money and sign an offer contract on Friday, but the backed out a few days before.

Not sure why, but they did.

I think that was harder than not getting an offer at all.

You know, I had myself on overload thinking, okay this is it.  Time to start coming to terms with actually leaving.  Time to get serious with deciding on a house for us.  And even a little excitement on the adventure ahead us, then POOF! gone, back to square one again.

Oh well, guess it wasn't meant to be.

I am trying so hard to pick myself up.

Enjoy every day for what it is.

It is quite hard at times because we have had so much stress and loss, but I cant let myself become overwhelmed by my emotions.

It’s still a work in progress but I’m trying.

I have enjoyed seeing so many friends doing post about Fall.

I love Fall, especially Fall decorating.

I'm am going to try to find some time and energy to do some around here.  I need to just let myself enjoy it.

There is a good chance we could be somewhere else this time next year, so I need to have fun with this house while I can.

Okay, I guess I have babbled on long enough.

Time to get up and do those dreaded dishes!!

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit and for putting up with all my Craziness!!!

Big Hug to you all.

Have a Fun Filled Fabulous Weekend,

Question For Sellers Of Vintage Textiles – Your Opinion Needed.

Oh my goodness, you wont believe the horrible weekend/week I have had.

I am not going to go into any details right now, my heart hurts and I just can’t.

My hubby and kids are fine, but my family did loose a very beloved member of our family this weekend.

It has left me not feeling like being online, and not feeling like doing much of anything.

I’ll be back soon and fill you in.

Any way,  I wanted to pop on and ask you all your opinion.

Okay, I sold an antique quilt top to someone.

They decided to wash it in the washing machine.

Well, it, of course, fell apart on them.

Now they are demanding a refund.

Stating it was this and that and had to be washed.

It’s condition was exactly as I described it.

Even inspected it again and again when she would email questions.

And it was exactly as I stated.

She was happy with it when it arrived, she even left me positive feedback for it.

It wasn’t until she washed it in the washing machine and it fell apart, did she become unhappy with it.

So,  I guess my question to you all is…

Do you think it is my responsibility to give her a refund because she didn't launder it properly?

You see, if it was me…

I would have hand washed it in the sink.

I would NEVER wash an antique quilt top in the washing machine!

Personally, I don't feel like I am responsible for a refund.

If she would've gotten it in and emailed saying she didn't like this or that about it, then asked for a refund, where she was able to return it in the condition it was sent.

Absolutely, I would have given a refund to her.

But now that she destroyed it because she didn't launder it correctly, I don't believe it is my fault.

What are your thoughts on the matter ?

How would all handle it?

Have you ever had a situation like this happen?

I look forward to hearing from you,

A Little Time To Relax

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

That is what hubby and I took….

A little time off  to time to relax.

We live approx. 2 hrs away from St. Louis, MO. and since Brett has a couple of vacation days we decided to take a little get away.

We had planned on going to The Longest Yard Sale this weekend but we currently have too many ores in the fire, so we decided against it.

It’s really okay though, to be honest, I haven't been in the mood to shop.

I know, but seriously, I’m not.

Well, at least for house type stuff or stuff for resale.

House type stuff, well, that is up in the air right now, as all of you know.

It just seems silly to fill this place up with anything else.

As for resale stuff, I really haven't had the time lately and I admit it, I also haven't been in the mood.

Even though on my trip to St. Louie I did hit GW and one antique store.

At the antique store I found a few more feed sack bags and these bowls.

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

They were selling these nesting bowls as a pair for an awesome price, so of course, I couldn't leave them behind. ;)

*I apologize for the poor quality of photos in this post.  They all were taken with my phone.

(Lazy of me, I know. LOL!)

I rearranged some stuff and now they are all displayed on my cabinet in the dining room.

At GW I picked up a few things for resale.

I absolutely love this mug and child’s cup.

While in St. Louis I had to eat at one of my favorite restaurants, The Old Spaghetti Factory.

Now if you have never ate at the one in St. Louis, You must!

It is located on the river front and I must say it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.

Here are some photos of inside.

And from the outside, there is a wonderful view of the Arch.

Sure looks like one.
