A Couple Projects I’ve Been Working On

A Primitive Place ~ Tammy

Hello All!

I hope you are having a wonderful week.

I’m finally feeling a little better.  The blahs seem to be passing somewhat.

Thank you, God!

I was truly getting on my own nerves.

With this new found energy, I went to work on a couple of projects.

One of them was repainting the cupboard in my Mud Room.

The black paint was way too dark for the small space.

I had noticed several pins on Pinterest about chalk paint and thought I would give it a try.

I went with what seemed to be cheapest and easiest for me.

I have been reading that some people also apply a wood wax finish.  I am not familiar with wood wax.

I do believe the cupboard does need some type of sealant on it and I don't want the shine of polyurethane.

I would love to know if you all have any suggestions on the type of wood wax I need.

Here are a couple of before and after photos…

I wanted to give the cupboard an aged, worn, appearance.

I made sure when painting it that some of the black did show through in areas.

I also gave it a light sanding once everything was dry.

I am pleased with how it turned out.

The white paint does help brighten up the dark corner.

Here are a few more photos of the cupboard…

And just because I love them, here’s a photo of my small collection of early blue and white clothing. :)

The other thing I have been working on is the wooden house my Mom made for Christmas.

I almost have the exterior finished.

All I need to do is add the wood shingles to the roof, just waiting on payday, then Hobby Lobby here I come. :)

Here is a Before of the house….

And now an After…

*Not the best photos.

I promise to take better ones when it is completely finished and put in its permanent spot.

I decided to add little wooden legs to the bottom of the house.

I found these at Home Depot for a couple of dollars each and knew they would look great.

They really set the house off.

It is coming along pretty good.  I am excited to see it with the wood shingle roofing.

Hurry up Friday!! Hehee!

Mom did a pretty awesome job!

Especially since this was the first one she had ever created and she did it all out of her head with no pattern.

I will treasure it always!

Well, It has been a long and very busy day for me.

Work was NuTs today!!

I am exhausted and heading off to bed early tonight.

Yep, my pillow is calling my name.

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit with me.

Until Next Time…

Take Care and Prim Filled Blessings To You All,

zTam

Good Morning Tammy,
I love chalk paint, it takes a bit for it to cure, when it does it is really durable. If you want it to be a little more prim, rub it down with some breewax. Go to your local hardware store, they'll have it or something like it. Because it's wax it does'nt soak in like stain and you have way more control. Try it on the back first, you just rub it on. They come plain or tinted. I prefer the tinted.
Hope this helps. Love the little house! Yay Mom!
Glad your feeling better, can I have a dose of whatever worked for you? We have been stuck in an inversion and our highs have hovered around 9 -12 degrees and dropping down to the very low single digits at night. We have not been above freezing for weeks...... Needless to say, it's been rather gloomy and it's been hard to find any motivation at all.
Hugs,
Tisha

So glad the blahs have gone. Love the house. Makes me want to get my doll house back out. Your cupboard does look better to me. Doesn't take a lot of black to be overwhelming to me. You have the touch of making anything look good.

Good Morning Tam glad you are feeling better, those winter time blahs are horrible.
I love the white it did brighten it up. Yes BreeWax is the best to use, simple and will give it the touch you are looking for.

Oh my Gosh but your Mom is major talented! I know this cause I'm a wood worker! It's coming along Fabulous and the 'feet' look great!
Your cupboard is looking great, too. We always use Min Wax which is probably like this Bree Wax that a few are talking about. You can find it at your local Walmart.
Glad your 'blahs' are moving on!

Where do I start...lol
Such fun things you did.
I love the cupboard...the details show up now like the drawer handles and the door detail.

Wow about the house - what a wonderful job your mother did and your finish work is beautiful. Great idea for the legs otherwise you would have to pick it up in a difficult way, now you can lift from underneath.
