The Dining Room ~ Time For Some Changes

A Primitive Place ~ Tammy

Lately I have been in the mood for a new look in my dining room.

Over the past week most of my time and attention has been spent on this space.

The first thing I decided to do was give my cupboard a lighter coat of paint.

I was over at Home Depot and noticed they sold these paint samples for less than $3 bucks.

You can have it matched to any color.

No more generic Wal-Mart craft paint needed!

I bought two different shades, a light gray for the dining room and a barn red for a project I’ll share soon.

It took two sample containers to paint this cupboard completely.

This is a photo of it when I ran out the first time.

I actually kind of liked it this way.

I liked the contrast of the lighter grey top to the black base.

Eventually I decided against it and finished up the bottom half.

I used a bristle brush when painting the cupboard and applied a light coat of the grey paint over the original black.

I wanted the black to show through in areas.

In my opinion this gave it a worn, old, appearance.

One thing I do really like about the lighter paint is the how it looks as a back drop for my red ware and yellow ware.

POP! :)

The next thing I did was, use the grey paint to go over the bucket bench I had in here.

It was originally a barn red color.

I painted it with the same technique as the cupboard.

I love it when that under-paint shows through.

The photo above gives you a hint of the next thing I changed.

Yes, new curtains…

Simple Linen panels.

Primitively tied back with string.

These were purchased from JC Penney’s.

$25.00 per panel + free home delivery.

I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Nice quality panels and I do love the shade of the linen.

One last thing I did that you may not have noticed.

I changed the two mustard yellow ladder back chairs.

I decided to paint them a barn red to match the other side.

So there you have it!

I new lighter look in my dining room.

I few more projects finished up around here.

I have been a painting fool lately. :)

I will be back soon to share what else I painted with the barn red paint and a prim laundry room tweak.

Until then…

Take Care and have a fabulous weekend.

Awesome changes! I have about 15 jars of that Behr paint myself! Haha..... Love it bc it's FLAT sheen and has primer in it already.... It's just perfect for projects. I too have been thinking about painting some stuff lighter in my home..... But am scared I will want it darker again come fall/ winter!?!?! Haha..... Can't decide! But you did a marvelous job and the red ware really does look great against the lighter color. I think maybe the key is use more natural colors with just accents of black s to get that more " natural " look? That's what I'm finding anyways from my fav Pinterest rooms! Looks beautiful... Great job

Hi Tammy, think you made some great choices. Love the cupboard color, and yes the yelloware and redware shows up beautifully. And those curtains look so pretty. Who would have thought they would come from Pennys? Looks like they would have come from a wonderful prim shop. Love how you tied them back. Can't wait to see more. Have a great weekend.

Tammy you are such a creative lady. I love how you have finished the little house your mom made for you, it is just sweet. Wonderful job painting the wooden furniture, I love the color with the red and yellow ware. I am going to check those JCP curtains out, they compliment the windows nicely. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas, greetings from Maine, Julie.
