A Couple Projects I’ve Been Working On

A Primitive Place ~ Tammy

Hello All!

I hope you are having a wonderful week.

I’m finally feeling a little better.  The blahs seem to be passing somewhat.

Thank you, God!

I was truly getting on my own nerves.

With this new found energy, I went to work on a couple of projects.

One of them was repainting the cupboard in my Mud Room.

The black paint was way too dark for the small space.

I had noticed several pins on Pinterest about chalk paint and thought I would give it a try.

I went with what seemed to be cheapest and easiest for me.

I have been reading that some people also apply a wood wax finish.  I am not familiar with wood wax.

I do believe the cupboard does need some type of sealant on it and I don't want the shine of polyurethane.

I would love to know if you all have any suggestions on the type of wood wax I need.

Here are a couple of before and after photos…

I wanted to give the cupboard an aged, worn, appearance.

I made sure when painting it that some of the black did show through in areas.

I also gave it a light sanding once everything was dry.

I am pleased with how it turned out.

The white paint does help brighten up the dark corner.

Here are a few more photos of the cupboard…

And just because I love them, here’s a photo of my small collection of early blue and white clothing. :)

The other thing I have been working on is the wooden house my Mom made for Christmas.

I almost have the exterior finished.

All I need to do is add the wood shingles to the roof, just waiting on payday, then Hobby Lobby here I come. :)

Here is a Before of the house….

And now an After…

*Not the best photos.

I promise to take better ones when it is completely finished and put in its permanent spot.

I decided to add little wooden legs to the bottom of the house.

I found these at Home Depot for a couple of dollars each and knew they would look great.

They really set the house off.

It is coming along pretty good.  I am excited to see it with the wood shingle roofing.

Hurry up Friday!! Hehee!

Mom did a pretty awesome job!

Especially since this was the first one she had ever created and she did it all out of her head with no pattern.

I will treasure it always!

Well, It has been a long and very busy day for me.

Work was NuTs today!!

I am exhausted and heading off to bed early tonight.

Yep, my pillow is calling my name.

Thanks so much for stopping by to visit with me.

Until Next Time…

Take Care and Prim Filled Blessings To You All,

zTam

Christmas Present From My Mom

Hi All Everyone!

I’m so glad you decided to stop by for a visit.

Where have I been??

Well, I would like to say off doing fun and exciting things, but yet once again, that is not the case.

In fact, I haven't been doing much of anything.

I think I have been suffering from the Winter Blues or Blahs lately, at least that is what I going to blame it on this time. :)

I've lost my mojo for the time being.

I’m sure it will come back, but until then, I’m letting myself be, well, Lazy.

I did want to jump on and share what my Mom made me for Christmas this year.

For the last couple of years she has been making my gift and I love it.

Always a wonderful surprise.

Last year was the pie safe cabinet I have in my breakfast nook.

This year…

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

A huge wooden house.

She originally made it for my porch but I think I’m going to keep it inside and finish it out like a doll house inside.

Should be fun.

But first, I must get it painted.

I’m not sure where I going to put inside though because it is so big.

Here is a photo with a coke can sitting on the porch to give you a better idea…

A Primitive Place ~Tammy

She really did an awesome job!!

Here are a few more photos…

I’m hoping to get started on the painting tomorrow.

I’ve never tried to paint anything like this before, so wish me luck! :)

I will be sure to show it off if when I get it done.

Take Care and I’ll be back soon to catch up, Promise!

Talk Soon,

Simplifying My Life In 2013 + Creative Pay It Forward

Well, that’s the plan at least.

Simplifying my Life, not my decor.

Often when you hear that word, thoughts go to decorating styles.

This is not really my goal.

Yes, there are areas that need it, such as closets, office, garage, etc.

But for now, I’m more concerned with Simplifying my life.

For the past year or so I have felt so stressed.

Some days are better than others, but looking back over 2012, Stressful is the main word that comes to mind.

That is no way to live, so something has to be done.

The thing is, a lot, not all but a lot of the stress is my own making.

I’m spreading myself too thin.

Trying to take on this and that, while still needing to finish 500 other things.

This needs to stop.

And that is just what I “plan” to do.

I want to get back to enjoying my home.

For way too long I really haven't.

I’ll do this or that, but it doesn't feel good because I’m too stressed, feeling like I need to finish so I can move on to other things.

Plus I have a real problem about feeling guilty about silly things.

If I’m not able to get something done because I was busy with this or that, at the end of the day, I feel guilty about it.

How crazy is that!

Like my website, for the past year I have barely been on it.

Not many new items listed, no tweaking, no playing around with it, nothing.

It just sat, which made me feel guilty because I was wasting the money I spent to have it up for the year.

So, that was my first decision.

Come February when my yearly hosting fee is expired, I will be closing it down.

I do still own the URL address and have no plans on giving that up after owning it for the past 9 years.

Instead I have decided to link it to my blog.

From there anyone who is interested can find my items for sale on Etsy and my selling blog.

I decided to keep the selling blog because its free and it gives me a place to sell newer items that Etsy doesn't allow.

Another thing I did, I closed down my booth.

Yes, the one I just opened a couple of months ago.

The rent was too high, I felt overwhelmed to try to fill it with more and more.

What started as Fun quickly became anything but.

I may open another one somewhere else in the Spring but for now I’m done.

I do plan on continuing to blog.

I could never walk away from all the wonderful friends I have made through the years.

My presence may be sporadic at times though.

When I have free time I’ll be on visiting all my favorite blogs, when I have something fun to share I’ll be posting.

The thing I am going to be working on though is not feeling guilty when life gets in the way and I end up staying away longer than expect.

I have a problem with that, Guilt, if I don't check in or don't post.

I’m sure some of you understand what I’m talking about and maybe even agree with me that its silly to get stressed over such things.

Blogging is to be fun, to be a place to relax, a place to talk and visit.

I'm sure all of you understand and some have experienced at times, life gets in the way.

I do hope that you all decide to stick with me, continue to follow along with me on this journey of taking back my life.

One thing I have decided to join in on is a Pay It Forward that Mandy @ Bittersweet FolkArt Primitives was hosting.

I know, Simplify Tam!! :) Heehee.

But I have all of 2013 and I do love sending surprises in the mail, so no pressure here.

Any who, back to the Pay It Forward…

2013 Creative Pay It Forward....

the first 5 people to comment on this post stating “they would like to Join In” will receive something from me sometime this year.

I don't know yet what it will be???

Maybe a handmade creation, or a prim candle, or a decorating book, ???

Just what ever comes to my mind or spirit.

I can promise that it will only be a type of item that I would want to receive myself.

There is one small rule and then one catch to this offer.

The one rule is…

This is open to USA and Canada bloggers only. Sorry but international shipping has gotten outrageous.

As for the “Catch”…

The first 5 people to request to be included must make the same offer on their blog and follow through with the giving.

*You must say you want to join in on the PIF in order for your comment to be counted.

Lets spread a little Love this year, my friends.

What do you say??

Wanna join in??

Thanks so much for stopping by and listening to me babble on. :)

I do treasure all of you more than words can express.

Take Care and Talk Soon,

Happy 2013 !!!

APP ~Tammy

2013

WOW!!

That date sounds almost ludicrous.

Seems like yesterday, I was waiting to party like it was 1999.

Now that has come and gone, many, many, many moons ago!

Then we had the “scare” that 2013 would never come to be at all. ;)

Oh, now come on, you didn't worry even a little bit??  Nah, me either.

APP ~Tammy

So, how was your Christmas??

I hope wonderful.

Ours was really nice.

A little odd this year, but still nice.

We did things a little different this year.

Instead of heading over to my Grams on Christmas Eve, we had a family party in a convention hall on the 23rd.

We ate, played games, and exchanged gag gifts.

Lots of laughs with that!

As for the gag gift I brought, well, I’m sure many of you will remember Marie's post about the tampon angel.

Heehee!

Well, after seeing that, I emailed her and asked if I could steal the idea for my family’s gathering.

Being the sweetie that she is, of course, she said yes.

So, I came up with this…

APP ~Tammy

Continuing on with theme I decided to also make a snowman to go along with the angel….

APP ~Tammy

Yep, it sure is…

A Pad snowman!! Heehee!

You should have seen my Uncle Gary’s confused expression when he pulled it out of the gift bag. :)

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of him.

*Thanks for the inspiration, Marie!!

Brett had to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so we opened our present the night of the 23rd.

Now, I will admit it,  I didn't like the idea of this at all.

I'm the type who wants to drag Christmas festivities out as long a possible.

Leave our activities till Christmas morning, but this year it couldn't be done. :(

He could've taken it off, but like he said, that would've taken a spot away from someone who still had little ones and needed to be home to see what Santa brought.

He’s right, our kids are grown, he never missed one when they were small.

I just don't like change.

I want things the way I am use to them.  Hopefully next year they can be back to normal.

Christmas Eve day before Brett had to go to work, we headed over to Mom and Dad’s to eat lunch and open gifts with them and my Sister, BIL, and nieces.

This year included in with my sisters traditional gift card, I included one of my burlap bears.

She really isn't really into primitive, so I tried not to go too prim crazy with it. :)

He started out like this…

APP ~Tammy

He is sitting next to a photo of Vicki and I when we were were young.

I’m the little one.

I always laugh about the fact that I use to hate that I was the younger sister, Now I’ll happily take it!!

:)

He is one of my smaller burlap bears, jointed, straw stuffed, and I just couldn’t help myself…

I had to grubby him a wee bit more…

APP ~Tammy

On Christmas morning, Kelsey came over and her, Kortney and I cooked breakfast.

Mitchell doesn't like breakfast food so that party pooper stayed in bed.

It felt like as soon as we finished up with that, it was time to head over to Mom and Dads for lunch.

And yes, incase you were wondering, I ate Again! :0

Then it was back home.

Kelsey and Kort laid around and watched Christmas movies while I cleaned up the house.

And yes, another admission of guilt, I did start taking down my Christmas decorations Christmas night!

To be honest, I always do.  After all the activities are over, and since the kids are raised, to me, it feels as though Christmas is over.

So down it all comes, till next year.

Then came the SNOW!!!

And tons of it!

I don't think I can remember Southern IL with this much snow, ever.  Especially not snow that has lasted as long as this has.

It started snowing Christmas night and it is still on the ground right now.

This never happens.

A couple of days later, More Snow!!

APP ~Tammy

Lucy Loves the snow.

I do Not!

I’m on the porch. ;)

APP ~Tammy

She is on the sidewalk in this photo.

Down in the grass it is even deeper, she cant really walk in it.

Instead she hops like a bunny.  It is so cute!

It may be hard to believe but Wheezy loves the snow too.

We were afraid to let him down for too long because it was so dark outside, he has a tendency to blend into the night.

He wanted Down with Lucy!! :)

Since I really haven't been able to get out and do much, I have spent my time cleaning.

Well, that and watching TV.

Yes, I have had my share of lazy days.

But I’m actually shocked on how much I have gotten done in such a short amount of time.

I have done a little rearranging in the living room and bedroom, a little tweaking in the dining room and kitchen.

I have cleaned out kitchen cabinets, closets, and drawers.

What has been my secret for this burst of cleaning energy??

Hoarders!!

No seriously.  I have been watching season 1 and 2 on Netflix.

I find myself watching an episode or two, then up and cleaning or clearing out some things.

That show is a Fabulous motivator!!

Brett likes when I watch it too, the house is so organized!!

As long as he doesn't have to watch with me, he’s all for it. :p

Here are some photo of the rearranging and tweaking I have done lately.

You might notice the difference, you might not.

But it’s there. :)

The biggest change is in the living room…

I moved the green cabinet to the corner and replaced it with the chair and table.

I also changed the wall decor.

In the dining room…

the biggest change is taking out the high back yellow chair and replacing it with a ladder, quilt, and firkins.

I also moved in the horse hooked rug and changed the items hanging on the side of the cupboard.

I haven’t taken photos of my bedroom, yet.

Hopefully soon I’ll get around to that.

One more thing I wanted to share before signing off…

Up above I mention Marie’s tampon post on her blog.

Well, I was one of the first to guess what it was and for this fun knowledge I won this…

APP ~Tammy

One of Maries wonderful creations.

An adorable snowman stocking.

So Cute!!

Thank you so much, Marie!!

I adore him.

Well, that’s it from me for now.

I think I have babbled on long enough.

I’m so happy you decided to stop by for a visit.

It was so nice to get to chat with you.
